How to calculate GST
| You have | Formula | Example — ₹1,000 at 5% |
|---|---|---|
| Price excluding GST | GST = Price × Rate ÷ 100 Total = Price + GST | GST = ₹50, Total = ₹1,050 |
| Price including GST | Net = Price × 100 ÷ (100 + Rate) GST = Price − Net | Net = ₹952.38, GST = ₹47.62 |
CGST, SGST and IGST
For a sale within the same state, GST is split equally: half is CGST (Central) and half is SGST (State) — or UTGST in a union territory. For a sale from one state to another, the full amount is charged as IGST. The total tax is the same either way.
